What is branding?

When you don’t know where to begin or what to do, working on your brand can feel daunting. Branding is vital since it not only creates a lasting impression on your customers, but also tells them about what to expect from your business. It’s what makes you, you.

A brand can be thought of as the concept or image that people associate with a company’s particular goods, services, and endeavours. However, it is not just about appearances, a brand is also the feelings people have towards a company.

Not only should branding leave a lasting impression on consumers, it also lets customers and clients know what to expect from your business. It is a way of distinguishing yourself from your competitors and clarifying what you offer that makes you the better choice.

Brand guides

As the name suggests, it’s a set of guidelines for your business when it comes to representing yourself visually. It includes fonts, colours, style, language and layouts.  It is an instruction manual on how your brand should be expressed. It encompasses the standards required to represent your brand correctly both internally and externally. It is something you could provide to anyone when creating for your business and they would be able to make it look and sound like your brand.

Why does it matter?

Branding can change how people perceive your brand, it can drive new business, and increase brand value – but it can have the opposite effect if done poorly or not at all.

Poor branding, or a complete lack of it, can be a deterrent to customers. It can be confusing as they’re not sure who or what they’re looking at, or it can be hard to find and recognise a company they might be looking for.
